Dr. Brent Updates Board on Back-to-School Plans

During Dr. Brent’s Superintendent’s Update, he shared technology, safety and professional learning progress with the Board of Trustees. Technology distribution efforts began in the weeks before the first day of remote learning. More than 100 volunteers assisted the GISD technology department in distributing devices to families in need.

Dr. Brent also shared the work being done to create safe, clean spaces in GISD schools and facilities. He shared that throughout the summer, staff at the Eagle Innovation Center worked to create protective barriers that have been installed in common areas such as front offices and cafeterias. Additionally, hand sanitizer stations have been installed on buses, in hallways and classrooms. New signage throughout GISD schools and facilities remind everyone of safety practices, and student face masks and adjustable face shields are currently being distributed to campuses.

Finally, Dr. Brent updated the Board on the first-ever virtual Convocation held Aug. 11 and the professional learning that took place across the district during the same week.
